Volunteering in Saratoga Union School District
Distance Learning Update:
During distance learning, parent volunteers working "in the classroom" remotely (and eventually in person) need to go through the SUSD volunteer clearance process. Badges are not needed at this time. Badging will resume when school campuses reopen.
To be cleared to volunteer in SUSD is a 3 step process:
- Download and complete the agreement form in the Volunteer Information Packet
- Have a healthcare provider complete and sign your TB risk assessment (the form is in the packet or your physician may have their own form)
- Complete the fingerprinting process (directions are in the packet)
Please take a few moments to review the Volunteer Information Packet on this page. The packet covers the process, instructions, frequently asked questions, and the forms needed to volunteer in SUSD. If you have specific questions that cannot be answered through the FAQ, please email Director of Human Resources Kym Imai.
The SUSD Board of Education recognizes and appreciates that volunteer assistance in schools can significantly enrich the educational program, increase supervision of students, contribute to school safety, and strengthen a school’s relationship with the community.
The Board encourages parents/guardians and other members of the community to share their time, knowledge and abilities with students. The Board, in compliance with California Education Code 35021 and Board Policy 1240, requires school volunteers to be screened and authorized to volunteer.
Volunteers who may be in contact with students outside the presence of certificated staff (however briefly) must arrange for a CA Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint submission prior to volunteering. Also, volunteers who will have frequent or prolonged contact with students must be tuberculosis (TB) tested and cleared. These requirements are in place given an abundance of caution for student safety and well-being.
Once you are volunteer-cleared you do not need to go through the process again as long as your child and his/her siblings are continuously enrolled in SUSD. However the TB risk assessment must be renewed every 4 years.
The district contracts with the UPS Store #6267 for district volunteer clearance fingerprinting services. Volunteers who are unable to attend the mobile fingerprinting services at Back To School Night should go to this UPS store location only. Complete the LiveScan form in the volunteer packet and bring it with you to The UPS Store #6267 along with government issued identification.
