The Board met for two consecutive days in Closed Session to meet with six semi-finalist canditates for the Superintendent position.
August 18, 2015: Special Board Meeting
The Board met in Closed Session with consultants Dr. Carolyn McKennan and Dr. Diane Siri from Hazard, Attea, Young and Associates to discuss candidate recommendations for first round interviews.
August 11, 2015: Regular Board Meeting
The Board met in Closed Session with designated district representative Janae Novotny from Burke, Williams and Sorensen regarding the Superintendent's Contract.
July 21, 2015: Board Workshop
HYA Search consultants met with the Board of Trustees during Open Session of their regular summer Board Workshop to present a Leadership Profile Report to the board. July 8, 2015: Event
Community Forum: Members for the Saratoga community were invited to participate in an open community forum moderated by HYA consultants.
June 25-July 13, 2015: Event
Survey Launch: The Saratoga Union School District Board of Trustees invited parents, staff, students, and community members to provide input via a survey link. Information would be compiled and included in the Leadership Profile Report developed by search consultants HYA. All responses were anonymous and the survey closed on July 13, 2015. Community members received surey information link and reminders weekly during the time the survey remained live.
June 25 & 26: Event
Meetings with Leadership Focus Groups: Members of the Saratoga community were invited to participate in conversations with HYA consultants regarding desire characteristics of the new Superintendent. Participants included SUSD PTA leadership, Music Boosters, SEF representatives, teachers and teacher leadership, site staff, administration, Saratoga City Council members, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint High School District Superintendent, Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation Department staff and former SUSD board members.
June 23, 2015: Board Meeting notes
At a Regular Board Meeting on June 23, 2015, the Board of Trustees reviewed the proposed timeline for the superintendent search. Please click HERE to view the proposed timeline.
The board also discussed the upcoming Leadership Focus Group meetings which will take place on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 16. Community members, parents and SUSD staff have all been invited to take part in informing the board about desired characteristics of the new Superintendent.
The board also discussed the launch of a survey designed to elicit similar information. The survey will be launched later this week.
June 19, 2015: Communication
The SUSD Board of Trustees held a special board meeting on Friday June 19, 2015 to discuss the process and timeline for the Superintendent search with HYA Associates, the search firm hired by our District. Your input regarding the desired characteristics and experience for our next District Superintendent is needed and valued. We’d like to invite you to the following:
• Attend an open forum with HYA Associates to share your viewpoints on TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2015 from 6pm - 8pm at the District Office Conference Room.
• Provide input to the SUSD Board of Trustees via a survey link which you will receive in the next few days. The survey will be open from June 25 until July 13, 2015.

June 12, 2015: Communication
The Saratoga Union School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that we have appointed Patti Gregory as Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2015.
Patti has worked in San Jose Unified, Moreland, and Campbell Union High School District as a Teacher, Principal, Director of Educational Services, and Assistant Superintendent. Since her retirement in 2010, Patti has been coaching administrators at school sites and district offices, which includes SUSD administrators. Patti is committed to enhancing students' education and experiences so they can be successful in college and careers. As a district office administrator, she has always viewed her role as one of support for schools, - the staff, students, parents, and communities we serve. Her major volunteer work has been with Project Cornerstone (since 2000), dedicated to helping students build assets.
Patti has a Bachelor's from UC Davis and a Master's from San Jose State University. She currently lives in San Jose and has a 2 year old grandchild.

June 2, 2015: Board Meeting notes
At a special board meeting the Board interviewed two executive search firms experienced in superintendent searches. The SUSD Board of Trustees chose to hire Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA). The entire Board is committed to having a process that gives our employees, parents and community members the opportunity to participate in this important hiring effort. We all want the same thing: to hire a fantastic superintendent who will guide our school district to be the best it can be.
May 12, 2015: Board Meeting notes
The Board selected two sub-committees to help facilitate the search for a new superintendent. One sub-committee (Cynthia Miller and Arati Nagaraj) worked on the hiring process for an interim superintendent, the other sub-committee (Susan Germeraad and Patty Buchanan) worked on the hiring process for selecting a search firm to find a permanent superintendent.
April 29, 2015: Communication
It is with deep regret that we announce the resignation of Superintendent Lane Weiss, effective June 30, 2015. Lane has served our district with utmost dedication for 12 years. He will continue his leadership journey as Superintendent of Aspire Public Schools for the Central Valley Area.
During this time of transition, the SUSD Board of Trustees will be working to appoint an Interim Superintendent so that our students have a seamless experience at school and the work of the district continues smoothly. We will also work with an executive search firm to recruit and hire our next Superintendent. Please allow us time to work through this process and be assured that this will be a collaborative effort with all our stakeholders.
