Contact, Concerns, Complaints

Saratoga Union School District (SUSD) strives to create and maintain open, inclusive, two-way communication with families and community members. To facilitate this goal and to ensure we can address your needs quickly and efficiently, we have outlined these steps for addressing questions or concerns.

Step One: Contact Your Teacher or Staff Member

SUSD believes many issues can be resolved quickly at the school level. We encourage families to reach out to the person closest to the question/concern, such as the teacher, as they are best positioned to work with you to address and resolve any issues. Please allow staff 24 to 48 hours to respond, Monday through Friday during school hours, because they serve many students and families.

Step Two: Contact Your School Office or Principal

If your question or concern remains unresolved or for general questions, contact your school office or principal.

Step Three: Contact the District Office

If you feel your concern is unresolved after discussing it with school site staff, contact the District Office.

Saratoga Union School District Office
20460 Forrest Hills Drive, Saratoga CA 95070
 (408) 867-3424, ext. 0
email: communication@saratogausd.org

Your concern or complaint will be routed to the appropriate program director or District administrator.

Step Four: Formal Complaint Process

Concerned parties are encouraged to complete steps one to three above before elevating complaints through a formal process. If concerns remain after doing so, however, the Board has adopted these formal complaint processes viewable on SUSD’s board policy portal (GAMUT) (Education Code §4600-4670) for complaints or concerns about:

  • District employees
  • Instructional materials
  • Nutritional program compliance
  • Procedural safeguards and special education
  • Title IX Sexual Harassment
  • Uniform Complaint Procedures
  • Williams Uniform Complaint Procedures

To file a formal complaint, we encourage contact the District Office (listed above) so that we may give you the formal complaint packet and explain the process.

After completing the paperwork, the form needs to be returned to:

Saratoga Union School District Office
Attn: Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees
20460 Forrest Hills Drive
Saratoga, CA 95070

To receive a response to your complaint, include your contact information.

The image displays the %22Speak Up%22 logo and contact information for reporting concerns about school safety, including an email address and phone number.

We always encourage open and transparent dialogue to resolve complaints, however some complaints may be filed anonymously per SUSD Board Policy.

These include complaints about:

  • A Williams Complaint regarding instructional materials, emergency or urgent facilities conditions that pose a threat to the health and safety of pupils or staff, and teacher vacancy or misassignments
  • Student intimidation, bullying or harassment. You may also use the SpeakUp Anonymous Tipline.
  • Employees, which may result in an investigation depending on the specificity and reliability of the information
  • Student fees (Ed. Code, § 49013)
  • Noncompliance allegations with the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) (Ed. Code, § 52075.)
  • Nutrition compliance
  • Specified health or safety issues in a license-exempt CSPP program

To receive a response to an anonymous complaint, include contact information such as an anonymous email address, post office box number, street address or date/time of pickup from the District Office.

A complaint filed on behalf of an individual student may only be filed by that student or that student's duly authorized representative.

If the complainant is unable to put the complaint in writing due to conditions such as a disability or illiteracy, the District shall assist the complainant in the filing of the complaint.
