Jill Kaminski, Elementary School Counselor

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I hope you had a wonderful summer and are excited to begin this year of learning, growing, and making connections. I’m looking forward to my 6th year as the elementary school counselor at Foothill, Saratoga, and Argonaut schools.

As the elmentary school counselor I meet with student individually, in small groups, and with classrooms to promote social emotional skills and development. We learn and practice skills such as cooperation, communication, resiliency, friendship, and problem solving. I am happily a resource for parents, staff, and faculty too.

This year I will be offering an 8-week Mindfulness training to TK-5 grade classrooms. Mindfulness practice has been scientifically proven to reduce anxiety, increase focus, boost memory, and enhance the immune system. The lessons will focus on mindful breathing, learning about the brain, cultivating gratitude, mindful movement, focusing the senses, perspective taking, and kindness.

I will also have an School Counseling Intern this fall, Bronwen Stern. Ms. Stern is a 2nd year graduate student at San Jose State University and has taught afterschool programs as well as studied community education and development. She will be meeting with students, classrooms, parents, teachers, and staff to promote SEL and gain experience in the public school setting.

Please take a moment to look over the school guidance website. Recommended articles on many topics are available. Warm wishes for a healthy and happy school year.
