RMS task force phase 2- task force formation, board update november 17,2016

Board Update

On November 17, 2016, our project facilitator presented an update to the school board summarizing the Phase 1 Task Force input and proposed a structure for next steps that includes formation of a 20-person Task Force and opportunities for continued input from all community stakeholders.

A copy of the facilitator’s community update presentation is posted on this page under Board Presentation

Task Force Focus

Based on input received, the Task Force will focus primarily on student and community wellness, while also thinking broadly in both the near-term and long-term about ways to enhance and improve: school culture and safety, student choice and electives, and the overall school schedule.

Other areas of academic interest and passion in our community -- including the possibility to have more middle school music during the day, review of our math pathways and discussion of our core middle school academics -- will be the subject of ongoing Board study sessions outside of the central Task Force efforts as we continue to improve our programs through our ongoing operations and commitment to excellence.

Additional Opportunities for Input

For those of you who might not be able to participate as a full Task Force member, we will have several additional opportunities open to everyone in our community to help refine and review ideas between now and the end of the school year.  These include:

  • continued monthly email and Board updates available to our whole community
  • two more online community-wide surveys (one mid-December and another late-March) to be sent to all SUSD parents and community members
  • two additional sets of in-person community forums (one each in the morning and evening in late-January and late-April) open to all community members

The Task Force will also be working to find ways to customize and extend our outreach to families with students in younger grades who might not have experienced Redwood and to those with alumni students who have already graduated.

We look forward to keeping you posted on our continued progress and thank you in advance for your ongoing participation and engagement.
