The Saratoga Union School District (SUSD) collects fees for both SUSD and the Los Gatos–Saratoga Union High School District (LGSUHSD) for properties located with the SUSD school district boundaries. Funds collected on behalf of LGSUHSD are remitted to them on a quarterly basis.

The current fees as of July 22, 2024 for SUSD only are as follows:

Residential

• Single Family Detached: $0.70 per square foot 
• Multifamily Attached: $0.70 per square foot 
• Senior Housing: $0.58 per square foot

Commercial

• Banks: $0.27 per square foot
• Community Shopping Center: $0.15 per square foot
• Neighborhood Shopping Center: $0.27 per square foot
• Industrial Business Parks: $0.34 per square foot
• Industrial Parks/Warehouse/Manufacturing: $0.13 per square foot
• Rental Self-Storage: $0.01 per square foot
• Research and Development: $0.29 per square foot
• Hospitality (Lodging): $0.11 per square foot
• Commercial Offices (Standard): $0.46 per square foot
• Commercial Offices (Large High Rise): $0.44 per square foot
• Corporate Offices: $0.26 per square foot

These are the minimum fees required to be paid by property owners and are set by the State Allocation Board (SAB), which oversees the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC).

No impact fees are due on Additional Dwelling Units (ADU's) or additions to existing residential units under 500 square feet.  The Building Department will fill out the SCUSD form, which calculates the required fees.

The actual impact cost of residential construction on school facilities is:

• $0.70 per square foot, based on a 2,382 square foot average.

The State Statutory fee for residential construction is $5.17 per square foot and for commercial construction is $0.84 per square foot. SUSD charges less than the statutory rate as identified in the latest Developer Fee Justification Study.
