Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Geisick
Dr. Kenneth Geisick began his role as Superintendent of Saratoga Union School District on September 3, 2019. Dr. Geisick most recently served as the Superintendent of Schools in the Orland Joint Unified School District in Orland, CA.
“I am honored to be selected by the Board of Trustees to lead the outstanding Saratoga Union School District as the new superintendent,” Geisick said. “The district has a long tradition of excellence in providing students with an exceptional education and I look forward to building on the district’s strong foundation and many accomplishments.”
“Coming to Saratoga will be something of a homecoming for me,” Geisick added. “I grew up in the area and attended nearby Union School District and Campbell Union High School District. And, my mother actually attended Saratoga Elementary School some years ago.”
Prior to his tenure as superintendent at Orland, Geisick held positions as Chief Educational Services Officer for THINK Together, an academically oriented after-school learning program that serves over 100,000 children each year; as Superintendent of Schools in Riverbank Unified School District; and as a high school and middle school principal. Geisick began his career in education as a classroom teacher at Andrew Hill High School in San Jose, teaching social studies, English language development, and journalism.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 new school year!
We are excited to meet our students on Thursday, August 17th.
This year, we welcome 269 new-to-district students spanning Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. Our overall district enrollment is currently at 1,624 students. That number is expected to grow as more families move into the area over the course of the school year. In the 2013-14 school year, SUSD’s total enrollment was 2,111– our decline in enrollment mirrors trends across the state and within Santa Clara County. With the state-wide expansion of TK to enroll students who turn age 5 through April 2, 2024 we have enrolled 57 TKers, our largest class ever!
At all four schools we are continuing to build upon the foundational work laid last year in developing the Multi Tiered System of Support framework (MTSS). MTSS provides a continuum of support and opportunities for ALL of our students. These supports look at academics, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students. The goal of this framework and process is to ensure that teachers and support staff are not only focused on academics, but we are also paying close attention to the social-emotional and behavior growth of all students. We embrace a 'whole child' approach.
The MTSS process includes the development and implementation of our Coordination of Services Team (COST). COST is made up of teacher leaders, specialists, administrators, and support staff. This multidisciplinary team coordinates to systematically identify students who might be struggling at the moment. The team can develop comprehensive multidisciplinary intervention plans and regularly monitor student progress through data and observation.
Your school will be or has sent instructions on picking up your student(s)’ COVID-19 home test kit. We recommend, but it is not required, that your student test the night before the first day of school. We have one additional test distribution offering for our Thanksgiving Break. We do not anticipate any additional testing distribution dates after November, 2023.
If your student is symptomatic for COVID-19 or tests positive, please contact your school office for further instructions.
Be on the lookout for messages from your school site. Your school’s eNews is an excellent source of information about your child's school. We wish your student(s) and family a fantastic and successful school year!
Warmly,
Ken Geisick, Ed.D.
