In An Emergency

Saratoga Union School District has an Emergency-Disaster Plan to ensure the safety of our students during any emergency. The emergency plan was developed in cooperation with and approved by state, county and city emergency service officials. The plan includes specific courses of action to be taken in case of specific disasters. Each employee of our school district is familiar with the plan and prepared to carry out his/her responsibility in any emergency. The plan is devoted to the welfare and safety of each student. It is important for you to be aware of several points.

In the event of a disaster that requires students to remain at school, school personnel will remain to look after the safety of your children. No child will be left unattended. Information concerning any emergency will be available to parents through local radio stations, such as KGO: 810 AM, 1610 AM, KCBS: 740 AM, or through whatever means are at our disposal.

Saratoga School has a site plan to handle the dismissal of students should it be necessary. Please follow all directions of school personnel when you arrive at school to pick up your child. As you or another authorized adult arrive at school, proceed to the grass field where you will find your child’s class, or, if the emergency causes us to be inside, proceed to your child’s classroom. In the case of an emergency that causes us to be inside, the doors to the school will be locked and only opened when we have received notification from the authorities that it is safe to do so. In both cases you will sign out your child with the classroom teacher or supervisor. If at all possible, walk to the school to avoid traffic congestion and possible impeding emergency vehicles. Do not remove your child from campus without informing a staff member. It is critical that we account for everyone’s safety.

In the event of an actual emergency or if you are on campus during a drill, please report immediately to the Command Center where your help may be needed. It is also critical that we have accurate and updated information on your child’s emergency card. If you have a new phone number or added an adult to whom we may release your child, please call the office immediately.

Parents/Guardians: please ensure that your most up-to-date phone contact information is listed on your child's green emergency information card under "24 Hour Phone."  This number is used by our automated phone messenger system in event of an emergency.  The form was sent out prior to the start of school.   To verify your number or to make changes, contact your school office.

Growing up has never been easy. It’s especially difficult for children in times of crisis. We owe it to our children to listen to what is on their minds, and in their hearts, and give them the best of our understanding and our guidance. I want to assure you that our staff handles the emotions that come about during troubled times with skill and sensitivity. Your children are well cared for at Saratoga School.
