In An Emergency

The Emergency/Disaster Plan for Saratoga Schools

Each of our schools has Evacuation and Emergency Plans in case of disaster.  There is always a possibility of fire, toxic gas, earthquake, explosion or other emergency situation.  Due to the unpredictability of the varied types of potential disasters which can occur, it is difficult to give specific details of each Emergency Plan.  However, it is important for you to be aware of several important points.

  1. In the event of a disaster, students will remain at school. School personnel will remain to look after the safety of your child(ren). The District plans to notify parents through local radio stations or through whatever other means are at our disposal, when it is safe for parents to pick up children.
  2. For the above reason, the District strongly urges parents to have a battery-operated radio available; in some disasters, electrical power may be off and telephone communications will be limited or non-existent.
  3. Because of possible traffic problems, please do not drive to the school to pick up your child until directed to do so. The District has an Emergency Plan and conducts drills at each school. We will aid students at the school and will not send them out of the school into danger.
  4. If the decision is made to release students, they will be released only to parents or to persons identified on the Emergency (green) Form. Please make sure that the office is notified whenever you have any changes to the information on this form.

The Emergency Phone Tree

The Emergency Phone Tree is the means by which parents will receive information from the school in a major emergency such as fire or earthquake.

This year the Emergency Phone Tree will be handled by the PTA Executive Board. Board Members will make calls to families using the listings in the Redwood Directory.

In the event of an emergency or the need to get information to parents quickly, the school will contact the Designated Phone Tree Team parents, who will organize contact with families in the calss for which they are responsible.

Historically, we have seldom needed to use the Phone Tree, but this system provides an easily referenced, single plan of response should the need arise.
