This section of our website is dedicated to providing information about the new Common Core State Standards to be fully implemented in the 2014-2015 school year. This section will be updated as new information becomes available. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were developed through a state-led initiative to establish consistent and clear education standards for English-language arts and mathematics that would better prepare students for success in college, career, and the competitive global economy.
In 1997, California adopted its first set of content standards in English language arts and mathematics and over the last 15 years California has continued to develop standards-based education in other content areas.
In August, 2010, the California State Board of Education adopted new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The new CCSS are research-based, internationally benchmarked, and designed to prepare every student for success in college and the workplace. CCSS MISSION STATEMENT
The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
